Part 2: determine spindle size

Select which method to use for spindle measurement:

If you have a caliper at hand, you can use it to determine your spindle diameter.

Simply determine the spindle diameter of your power drill with a sheet of paper and a pair of scissors.

What you need:

  • Caliper

  • Remove the drill chuck of the drill.

  • Prepare all the necessary materials.

  • Open the caliper and measure the spindle diameter.

  • Close the caliper down and read the diameter of the spindle.

  • TIP: Mark the first line on the lower scale to make it easier to read.

  • The upper scale shows millimeters (see picture =1.2=12mm).

  • The unit displayed on the first line of the bottom scale will be applied.

    Warnung WARNING, the measurement can deviate by 0.1 - 0.3 mm!

This is even easier if you have an inch/imperial caliper!

  • The bottom scale indicates a more precise value after the decimal point (see figure = 0.5).

  • The lines from the top and bottom scales that meet exactly count as the measuring line.

  • This picture shows a spindle diameter of approx. 12.5 mm.

  • Scissors for cutting
  • Sheet of paper
  • Pen (e.g. pencil)
  • Set square or ruler

  • Prepare all the necessary materials.

  • Using the ruler, draw a rectangle that is exactly 40mm (or 1” 9/16) long and about 10mm (1/2”) wide.

  • Take the sheet of paper and carefully cut out the pre-drawn rectangle.

    CAUTION CAUTION, risk of injury!

Place paper strip

Place paper strip
  • Wrap the paper strip around the spindle.

Select your results

Click on the diameter of your drill chuck.
